Art In The Park 2024

Art In The Park this year was another fantastic show at West Park in Allentown. It was a beautiful day to be outside and celebrate the arts!

The event ran from 10-5 on September 14, 2024. We arrived around 8:30 and finished setting up just in time! Throughout the day I was able to speak to many people, including other artists, about my display. I even made friends with the moth that landed just inside my tent for awhile in the afternoon. We were even able to record a few moments during the day which you can watch in the video below!

I displayed a variety of work including but not limited to, handmade polymer jewelry, hand painted glass and ceramics, hand painted ornaments, original paintings, drawings and mixed media projects, hand painted clothing, and crochet clothing and stuffed animals. Some fan favorites from this show were the polymer clay magnets and wooden pumpkin ornaments. Even though Art In The Park 2024 is over, you can still shop JKH Artwork any time by clicking here!

A huge thank you goes to my parents for assisting me with travel and set up. I would also like to thank Joey Dalton for helping set up/clean up and keeping me company throughout the day. Without them I wouldn’t be able to do these shows, so I appreciate their support. Lastly, I must thank the West Part Civic Association for having me yet again this year.

Watch a few moments from the day!

Fall Fairy Renaissance Faire Costume 2024

This year I decided to embark on a journey of textiles. I started in January, attempting to teach myself how to crochet, and that turned into crocheting an entire skirt and buying a sewing machine in order to make the rest of a fall fairy costume for the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire.

The pumpkin stitch skirt, pumpkin bag, bodysuit and matching shorts, and the green corset were all handmade by me, mostly self taught using videos on the internet and a lot of trial and error. The entire look was inspired by the black and orange flower crown I purchased at the Ren Faire in 2023. I used purchased patterns to create the bodysuit and the corset.

The pumpkin skirt was inspired by a video I saw on Youtube by a creator called MUSHYY and I used some scrap leather to add a phone pocket and waistband. This same leather was then used to create a cross-body strap for my pumpkin bag. The pumpkin handbag was designed and created entirely by me and my very limited knowledge of crochet. I used wire to build a frame and then crocheted around it using a variety of stitches until it started to take the shape I was looking for. I then added a fabric lining inside and a sturdy base made out of thick cardboard and scrap leather.

As my very first true foray into costuming/textiles, I am very pleased with the outcome of this project. It taught me many new skills and introduced me to new mediums. I look forward to wearing this costume again next year and potentially designing another one for 2025.
