Half Self Portrait

This painting was a self implemented test of my skills working with oil paint in portraiture. I had done some smaller oil portraits in a more painterly style but wanted to try my hand at a more photo realistic approach. And while this still has far to go to truly be photo realistic I’m happy with the progress I’ve made in this medium and look forward to more progress in the future.

Reckless Driving

Reckless Driving is a piece inspired by the song of that title by Lizzy McAlpine. It originally started as a painting I began many years ago and was just now attempting to finish. I had been listening to the song and the silhouette from the music video kept appearing in my mind so I put it to paper. The geometric shapes seem to shatter, starting from the figure and spiraling out. It felt fitting for a song about crashing and falling apart.

Inktober 2022

For Inktober 2022, I decided to write my own prompt list. For all 31 days of October, I chose to draw a ghost dressed up in different Halloween costumes. This was my first time writing my own list and my first time completing the Inktober challenge on time by the end of the month. Each drawing for Inktober 2022 was done on a blank white greeting card. I wanted these drawings to be fun renditions of my iconic ghost symbol, reflecting both a simple art style and a more light-hearted aspect of Halloween: silly costumes!

I have always loved Halloween and have been attempting to complete the Inktober challenge since I was in High School. I often times feel stumped by the official prompt lists which is why this year I’ve chosen to create my own inspiration. Ghosts are one of my favorite icons of Halloween, I have an entire shelf dedicated to ghost artwork, figures, and even candles! It only felt right to use these ghosts as source material for this series of drawings. While committing to creating a piece of art every day for a month is quite challenging, I look forward to trying again next year with a new set of prompts.

Artist Showcase: Dark Arts 2022

This year’s Dark Arts Show was another fun themed display at the Quakertown Farmer’s Market, made perfect by great art and awesome costumes! A huge thanks to everyone that came out to support the local talent, to all the other artists for making the showcase what it was, and to Small Media Large for hosting. An extra thanks to my dad and boyfriend for helping with set-up, clean-up, and keeping me company throughout the two day long set up.

Fishbowl Jack-O-Lantern

A whimsical take on the standard jack-o-lantern featuring one of my favorite things to paint: goldfish. I loved the idea of a pumpkin being carved for something other than just a candle. And though it’s not very practical, I think it would be really fun to see something like this in real life.

Art In The Park

This year’s Art In The Park was yet another wonderful show at West Park in Allentown. We were given a beautiful day to display our work and celebrate art of all kinds. Thank you to everyone who came out to the show, to everyone who visited my tent, and to anyone who purchased art from me. The support was wonderful and it was exciting to experience my biggest show to date. Thanks to Art In The Park for having me and to both my parents for assisting in set up and clean up as well as keeping me company throughout the day.

Restored Deer

My customer requested that I repainted their deer lawn ornaments. I started with a solid coat of brown spray paint and then hand painted details with acrylic paint.

Cherry Girl

Inspired by my recent cherry themed birthday festivities, this portrait comes mostly from my imagination. This piece did not end up being what I had initially envisioned though I like this end result much more. I wanted to focus on brush strokes more than realism and in general, I wanted this to be a fun painting. I accomplished this by not blending any of the colors and using basic imagery to create recognizable motifs throughout the piece. With a solid black outline and some extra details, this cherry girl truly came to life.
